There are a number of very good camping sites parks with great facilities and entertainment and many fascinating places to visit in the Cambridgeshire area.
At many of the camping sites there are caravans available for hire. Some sites cater only for adults, such as the rural Stanford Park.
Most sites, however, welcome children and have designated playgrounds, pools and entertainment especially for children. One of these is the Bourn Golf and Country Club, set in the countryside outside Cambridge.
Most sites have facilities for campers to hook up to mains electricity. An example is Two Acres Caravan and Camping Park.
Many sites are situated in the beautiful Cambridge countryside - Roseberry Tourist Park is even in a former pear orchard.
The Cambridge Cherry Hinton Caravan Club site is set in old quarry workings that have been beautifully landscaped to give it a rural feel, although it is still very close to many amenities and shops. Sites all have designated spots for tents, caravans and even for motor homes or Recreational Vehicles.
Some camping grounds are much larger than others and also have better facilities than smaller sites. These smaller sites, however, can be cosier and not as noisy or busy.
There are many interesting places to visit and things to do in and around Cambridge if you are based at one of these camping sites. Children will enjoy going to Banham Zoo, the Audley End Miniature Railway or Cheeky Monkeys` Play Barn. The active family can rent bicycles from Openfields Cycle Tours or take a hot-air balloon flight with Wizard Balloons.
Another exciting option is visiting Pidley Paintball. For the adventurous visitor, Aeromega Helicopters offer rides. Peterborough Parachute Centre and the Tandem Jumps Company are the places to go for parachute jumping. Nature lovers will enjoy visiting one of the many nature reserves, such as Byron`s Pool Local Nature Reserve.
Another attraction is the charming village of Grantchester, just outside Cambridge, which was the home of Rupert Brooke. A small but charming park that has a large choice of caravans for rent is Holywell Bay Caravan Park. It is within a short walk of a beautiful beach with large dunes that children love to play in and has a very good restaurant and bar. There is plenty of organised entertainment for children, with the water slide into the pool a particular attraction.
