Bed and breakfasts are similar to guest houses but are usually business started from home offering not more than up to six guests accommodation. They may vary in the type of service offered  by the owners them selves. Also they can only accommodate no more than six people.

Guest Houses are licensed by the city council and hold a class one fire certificate and can accommodate more than six people. And are run more professionally on a commercial basis and may offer a licensed bar, ample parking,free wifi Internet, evening meal may be an option and you are guaranteed someone to meet you upon arrival. 

Hotels you can expect much more in a luxury hotel such as a licensed bar - restaurant - room service - quite guest lounge and 24 hour staff on duty  and provide secure parking most will be located centrally to the city centre.

Inns are public houses that offer bar meals & alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, they normally have a restaurant which serves food mornings lunch times and evenings. And have found extra income from offering some of the rooms normally above the bar area to b&b accommodation.

Self Catering well  breakfast is not provided for you in self catering establishments. But cooking facilities are normally provided for you. Generally they are houses converted into apartments or can be a beautiful country cottages close to the seaside making then perfect for holidays and offer short and long stays.

Bedsits often provide a cheaper alternative for students while studying (room to let) and are normally a room within a shared house with use of a shared kitchen facilities and will have use of a shared bathroom facilities.

Farmhouses offer bed and breakfast at a different level altogether many include evening meal but the special ingredient is your are away from the big city and have beautiful country views. If you are looking to relax and unwind then maybe bed and breakfast in a farmhouse is for you.

Cambridge is a beautiful, green city with many guesthouses parks and open spaces, public gardens and college grounds such as Cambridge University Botanic Gardens. There are a large number of places to visit, including museums, famous buildings and theatres. There is also no shortage of serviced accommodation in the city and the guest houses are an excellent example of this.

Most guest cottages are bed and breakfast establishments. A large number are within walking distance of the city centre and bedrooms are all en suite, with some offering free internet access. From these cottages one has easy access to theatres and cinemas in the city centre, such as the Cambridge University ADC Theatre which is home to the famous Footlights Revue.

Many of the establishments are family run, which makes them cosy and personalised. Among them is a beautifully renovated Victorian house close to major roads and the Science Centre, with another Victorian house in grand tradition and a lovely garden as well. Many farmhouses are lovingly restored and serve as excellent bed and breakfast accommodation for tourists, such as a Georgian style house; although in a farm area, these houses have all the comforts of city accommodation and the added bonus of a genuine fresh farm style breakfast.

Some cottages are in quiet rural areas and give tourists the experience of country living; yet they are not so far from Cambridge and tourist attractions such as the Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettle`s Yard with modern art exhibitions. Some of these back into fields and give the impression of living on a farm; yet there are flat screen television sets in the rooms and free internet access.

Most cottages have tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and free parking; some are also non-smoking establishments. From lodgings such as this you can visit the city and especially the many beautiful parks, such as the Anglesey Abbey Gardens and Lode Mill and the Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
